Lufthansa Business Class 747-400 Cabin Review

LufthansaLufthansa Business Class Review

On a recent trip from Frankfurt to Toronto, we flew Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class. Being a day flight with a scheduled departure for 1:55pm, we also had the opportunity to visit the Lufthansa Business Class Lounge near gate A13.

Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class cabin seats 67 passengers across two decks. We were seated in the main deck in seats 1A & 1C in a 2-2 cabin configuration allowing us direct aisle access for the entire flight.

It is important to note that 8 aircraft of Lufthansa’s 747-400 fleet have this Business Class cabin with some 2-3-2 seating which is a rarity. When flying Business Class with Lufthansa, confirm with your airfare specialist on seating preferences so you can ensure you also get direct aisle access if possible once you have booked your trip!

Our Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class seats had fully flat beds in a forward facing Collins Diamond Parallel platform where we were able to stretch out and enjoy a comfortable 8+ hour flight ahead.

Our first impressions of the Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class seat was that it was a slightly older product onboard, however overall still highly maintained. We noticed that the windows are quite far from the seats, so it made it a little difficult to shut them when you were seated.

As our flight was 8.5 hours long, we really got the opportunity to settle into our cabin, take advantage of the fully flat bed and immerse ourselves in Lufthansa’s inflight Business Class experience.

Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class Amenities & Storage

Being seated in row 1 of Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class, the inflight entertainment is quite a distance from your seat, and with a smaller screen in comparison to the newer models of aircraft, it can make it tricky to watch a good movie.

Each seat is equipped with a 11.7 inch HD touchscreen display, with a wide selection of movies and TV shows – very similar to a Qantas or Singapore Airlines equivalent. We found that there was also a nice selection of European films as well which we can assume is to cater to the European passengers onboard.

Each seat was equipped with two storage compartments. The first storage spot was beneath the screen, which was only large enough to stow a water bottle and amenity kit – which was already there as we boarded.

The second storage space was an overhead bin. It is known for Lufthansa to have limited storage space in their Business Class cabins, so it being a more outdated product we kind of expected this when boarding.

There are universal AC and USB-A sockets and there was a mattress topper, pillow and some older sound-cancelling headphones provided at our seat.

Our Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class amenity kit was the Porsche design stocked with a dental set, disposable socks, an eye mask, earplugs, lip balm and cream.

Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class In-Flight Dining

Once boarding Lufthansa 747-400, we were offered take-off champagne by the friendly cabin crew to which we delightfully said yes to.

Overall, the inflight dining experience in Lufthansa’s 747-400 Business Class was nothing short of exceptional.

Being an 8.5 hour day flight, two main courses were served, one soon after departure and another 1.5 hours before arrival.

The first main meal was accompanied by an appetiser of our choice, a salad, and dessert. We opted for the pan-seared cod as our main with a salad of chickpeas and carrot, and for dessert, the mascarpone and vanilla mousse.

All of these dishes were served promptly and neatly on individual white china plates with cutlery.

We could not fault the food; although we do not generally opt for fish when flying, it was delicious. By the second main meal, we were still very full but chose the pasta main and dessert, which were both equally delightful.

The high level of detail in the onboard service was evident, with delicious food and very attentive staff who engaged in pleasant chats and banter, which made us feel very welcome and comfortable for the entire flight.

Their new signature drink, the Avionic, is a must-try! Overall, the inflight dining was superb and significantly enhanced our travel experience.

Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class Flight Summary

Seated in 1A and 1C, our experience onboard Lufthansa’s 747-400 Business Class was comfortable, and significantly more enjoyable with friendly cabin crew.

Flying from Frankfurt to Toronto we had the opportunity to experience the fully flat beds with direct aisle access as well as two tasty inflight meal services.

A special mention to Lufthansa’s signature drink, the Avionic and complimentary champagne during boarding, we really enjoyed the beverages also provided.

Despite the Lufthansa 747-400 Business Class cabin being an older product in Lufthansa’s range of Business Class offerings we didn’t find that the smaller screen and lack of storage space overall severely impacted our flight experience.
