During a Business Class trip, we had the opportunity to check out the SilverKris Business Class Lounge after Singapore Airlines had closed it mid-pandemic for refurbishment. Reopening in November 2021, and COVID restrictions easing, we were able to check out the first of the four lounges in the S$50 million project by hospitality designers Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA). The last time we visited the Singapore Airlines SilverKris lounge in Changhi Airport Terminal 3, was in 2018.

We arrived at the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Business Class Lounge at about 7pm. The art glass installation near the entrance made the lounge easy to find. The SilverKris Business Class Lounge, SilverKris First Class Lounge and The Private Room are all accessible with the same entrance walkway with staff directing you to the appropriate lounge upon entering. When we visited in 2018, the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Business Class Lounge was a lot smaller than what it is now, it also had a lot less natural lighting and more limited seating options.

Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge Layout

The layout of the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge, a canvas shaped by Hirsch Bedner Associates, is a blend of thoughtful design and contemporary aesthetics and the shape of a long rectangle in hindsight. The refurbished space unfolds into sophistication, striking a balance between functionality and visual appeal. However, during peak hours, particularly from 7 pm to midnight, the lounge pulses with activity, making it a lively hub that might not align with those seeking a quieter retreat.Securing a quiet spot during busier times can be challenging, contributing to the hustle and bustle of the environment.

From reception, veer left for the main food area. It’s also where you’ll find more variety in seating, including a nice working bench at which you can take in the airport views. There’s everything from Singapore Airlines’ signature high-backed chairs to productivity pods, sofas, dining tables and more. Alternatively, take a right turn after entering and you’ll find a lighter and brighter space that’s geared more towards short stays. It’s also where you’ll find the signature bar and barista counter.

The art glass installation near the entrance serves as an inviting beacon, guiding patrons through the interconnected walkway to different sections of the lounge. Rows of seating, semi-private cubicles by the windows, and a strategically placed bar contribute to the lounge’s multifaceted appeal. While the lounge exudes a vibrant atmosphere, finding seats during peak hours can be a bit of a challenge, despite the significant amount of seating provided – it seems as though the Singapore SilverKris Lounge needs to be even bigger.

Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge Food and Beverage Options

Exploring the culinary offerings of the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge reveals a commitment to diverse and quality dining experiences. The extensive menu caters to a broad range of palates, featuring an array of Asian dishes and made-to-order options. The self-serve drink stations, stocked with water, soft drink, beer, and wine, offer a refreshing respite. The lounge boasts a good range of self-service drinks, allowing patrons to indulge in a variety of beverages.

However, the beautifully designed bar, operating on a schedule – serving barista coffee from 6 am to 10 am and mixing cocktails from 5:30 pm to 1 am – introduces a nuance that may not align with the varied preferences of travellers across different time zones. The breakfast service, available 24/7, caters to all body clocks, offering a diverse range of options to suit different tastes and preferences.

The buffet, a focal point of Singapore Airlines SilverKris Business Class Lounge, showcases Asian flavours through hot and cold options. The made-to-order menu adds a personal touch, offering Japanese udon, laksa, and more. Despite the impressive food selection, the grab-and-go theme in the cold buffet, with packaged items such as sandwiches and desserts, might deviate from the traditional business class lounge dining experience. This grab-and-go approach, while convenient, may not provide the leisurely dining experience some patrons seek and removes the ‘exclusive’ feeling for some.
