Singapore Airlines Business Class Review

We recently flew Singapore Airlines Business Class aboard their A350 aircraft. With a direct route from Auckland to Singapore on this medium-haul aircraft, we were excited to experience the features and services associated on this flight. Being Flat Beds experts, we were excited to experience the Singapore Airlines Business Class product given the widespread acclaim this product has received.

Singapore Airlines Business Class Cabin Layout

The Singapore Airlines Business Class cabin adopts a 1-2-1 configuration, providing every passenger with direct aisle access. To optimise legroom, each seat alternates the placement of the armrest console, resulting in some seats being positioned closer to the aisle, while others feature a bit of separation with the console on the aisle side.

During our experience, we were seated in the middle aisle, where the seat layout placed the armrest on the inside, bringing our seat closer to the aisle. For travellers journeying with a companion, the middle seats offer an appealing choice, allowing for the lowering of the privacy divider between the two seats. However, it’s worth noting that to maintain face-to-face interaction, one may need to lean forward slightly.

For those who prioritise additional space when entering their seat, opting for a seat with the aisle-side armrest is advisable, eliminating the need to manoeuvre around the console. Despite these thoughtful configurations, we feel some aspects could be enhanced. The Singapore Airlines Business Class seats, for instance, felt somewhat narrow.

Singapore Airlines Business Class Storage And In-Flight Amenities

On mid-haul flights with Singapore Airlines Business Class, amenity kits are not provided as standard, but additional items can be requested on demand, presenting an effective way to minimise waste and only utilise what’s truly necessary. During our journey, we opted not to request any extra items as we found the provided amenities sufficient for our needs.

The entertainment screen in the cabin boasted a commendable size, offering an array of options for our 6 hour flight to Singapore. While the seat itself provided ample room, the footwell was slightly snug, making movement a bit more constrained when in use. Nevertheless, the fully flat bed proved to be comfortable, contributing to a restful travel experience.

Adjacent to the seat, the entertainment controls were conveniently located on the right side. Here, passengers could manage the seat pitch, operate the entertainment screen, and charge their devices. This setup was user-friendly and easily accessible throughout the flight.

Singapore Airlines Business Class storage options are quite practical in this setting, notably with a small cubby hole located near the light, offering ample space for various items. If you bring your own headphones, it’s possible to remove the provided ones and store them in the overhead bin, to free up more space. Further storage is available near the floor, and you can also place items under the footwell, such as shoes if you opt for a change into slippers. It’s worth noting, however, that access to items under the footwell is restricted when the bed is converted fully flat.

Singapore Airlines Business Class In-Flight Dining

Menus were presented shortly after boarding, featuring one for the main meal service and another detailing additional amenity add-ons. The Business Class menu has been exclusively curated by Matt Moran of Aria Restaurant in Sydney.

Once airborne, a selection of nuts and a drink of choice were promptly served. Lunch, offering four main options, along with an appetiser, dessert, and a variety of breads, coffee, and tea, was served during the flight. The appetiser comprising Prosciutto with Melon, Green Olives, and Lemon Dressing was overall quite fresh and nice. Our main meal selection was the Seared Lamb Loin with Natural Jus, although the lamb was noted to be overcooked and dry. For dessert, the Raspberry Lamington was chosen, delivering a sweet taste with a consistency reminiscent of cheesecake.

Additionally, we opted for a Pulled Beef Brisket Sandwich with coleslaw from the refreshment menu during the flight. The pulled pork bun offered an enjoyable taste, albeit with a slightly dry texture from the bun – which is a common occurrence when reheating meals during flights. It could be recommended for Singapore Airlines Business Class menu to consider incorporating more options akin to the melon and prosciutto salad to mitigate the risk of dryness during the reheating process.

Flying Singapore Airlines Business Class from Adelaide to Singapore (visit our Singapore  Airport guide here) on the A350 was a positive experience. The 1-2-1 cabin layout allowed for direct aisle access, and despite being seated in the middle aisle, the journey was comfortable. Practical storage options and commendable amenities, including the entertainment screen, contributed to the positive impression. The curated dining experience by Matt Moran showcased variety, though there’s room for menu enhancement.
